Testimonials

I have been a painter and decorator for over 40 years, but have found that recently it has been a struggle to get in new business. I contacted Openglobal after a recommendation, and found them to be friendly and helpful. I know very little about websites and the internet, but everything was explained to me and taken care of, and all very quickly. I have been contacted by potential customers through the website so I know it's working!

Google PageRank

Google PageRank is considered by some to be the most important aspect when Google ranks your website. And it's true that PageRank is what made Google the best search engine around. But Google themselves insist that it is one of 200 different factors that they use when producing search results.

So what is it and how important is it?

PageRank is basically a score out of ten that Google gives to webpages that shows the internet "reputation" of that page. This reputation is defined by the inbound links to the page. The more websites that link to a page, the better it's reputation. And the better the reputation of those linking sites, the higher the value of their link to your webpage.

This means that in order to improve your PageRank, you should get as many other websites to link to you as possible. And you should try to maximise your links from other high-PageRank webpages.

Naturally, over time, many webmasters have taken advantage of this to try to improve their search engine rankings. So, Google has reduced the importance of this metric in their search rankings.

However, it is still important. You should still put the effort into link building to improve your PageRank. But you shouldn't neglect the other factors of SEO. You still need to make sure that your page is well optimised, you still need to make sure that there is valuable content and you need to keep it up to date.

Some SEO companies will try to "optimise" your website just by building inbound links to it. But that's only part of the job. Regardless of how important PageRank may, or may not be, there are still 199 other metrics to consider.
