The Office of National Statistics has released official statistics stating the online sales have increased this year to become 10.5% of total retail sales in the UK.
What does this mean to your company?
Well, it means that if your company doesn't have a website, you're going to seriously struggle in the next few years.
But if you do have a website, and you're not selling through it directly, you're probably still missing a sizeable portion of your potential income.
10 years ago, if you sold products through a website, you'd probably have been the only one in your industry doing it, and you'd have done very well out of it. I should know, I was doing it :-)
But these days, in pretty much every industry, there's somebody selling it online. These days, it's a lot trickier to get your foot in the online sales market.
But if you're not doing it, you're probably missing out on at least 10% of your potential revenue, if not a LOT more.
This 10.5% includes thousands of companies which are only selling the odd item here or there because they haven't been promoting their site very well. Companies that have invested a lot of money in an e-commerce website and assumed sales would just come rolling in.
Well it's not 2001 any more.
If you're considering paying a sizeable amount of money to have a website designed to sell online, make sure you're working with a company that provides the full range of online marketing services so that they can advise you on which is the best for your website, rather than just flogging the latest buzzwords.
